Joyvio’s ready-to-eat coconut slashes supply chain losses and disrupts beverage industry through premium innovation.

Long hampered by inconsistent grading, difficulties in opening the product for retailers and consumers, and post-harvest losses as high as 70 per cent during transit, the global fresh coconut trade has struggled with scalability. This heavy supply chain shrinkage, paired with a narrow peak-flavour window, has historically limited the fruit's long-haul cross-border expansion.
In response to these friction points, Chinese fresh produce powerhouse Joy Wing Mau (JWM) Group leveraged its premium brand, Joyvio, to roll out a game-changing processed product: the Joyvio Snowball Coconut.
Featuring a proprietary fully-dehusked design, the innovation morphs the unruly raw coconut into a standardised, ready-to-eat consumer packaged good that integrates an "all-in-one drink and dine" experience. This strategic move directly taps into the structural evolution now reshaping China’s fresh coconut sector.
"The consumer profile for fresh coconuts is rapidly shifting away from primary agricultural commodities toward convenient, snackable, and experiential lifestyle products," notes Yang Peng, product director of the coconut department at JWM.
"Essentially, consumers are migrating from purchasing raw culinary ingredients for home prep to paying for a premium, turnkey ready-to-eat experience."
To secure a consistent commercial pipeline, JWM pioneered a "super factory" blueprint in Thailand’s premier aromatic coconut growing region.
The system leverages semi-automated assembly lines, where proprietary cutting machinery assists skilled workers in precision de-shelling. Instead of breaking the shell to extract water and adding external coconut water, the technology extracts the edible part (the coconut egg) while retaining the whole coconut shape. Both the coconut water and meat remain fully intact, offering a convenient consumption experience.
This technical integration has slashed end-to-end supply chain losses from 70 per cent to a lean 20 per cent, positioning the group to scale daily capacity to 100,000 units through entirely in-house engineered workflows.
Yang also emphasised that the Snowball Coconut is built on a clean-label formulation, guaranteeing zero chemical additives, zero preservatives, and zero exogenous water. Backed by a rigorous 10-step fresh-locking matrix and -18°C deep-freeze logistics, the product has extended the typical 60-day fresh coconut shelf life to an unprecedented 24 months. The extended shelf-life overcomes the short consumption window of traditional fresh coconuts and the barriers to long-distance transportation.
Within Joyvio’s coconut portfolio, the Snowball represents a fourth-generation innovation, designed to drive premium brand equity. Yang made it clear the relationship between the new entry and traditional fresh green coconuts is complementary rather than zero-sum.
"The Coconut Egg serves as a highly differentiated hero product and a major catalyst for brand momentum. It elevates a primary farm product into a high-value consumer item. While enriching Joyvio's overarching fresh fruit portfolio, it has also fundamentally upgraded our vertically integrated supply chain capabilities from seed to shelf," Yang explains.

"Traditional green coconuts will continue to anchor our high-volume, mass-market plays and serve as a crucial raw material pipeline for the food service sector. Meanwhile, the Snowball Coconut is uniquely positioned to capture high-end retail, the premium gifting market, and experiential consumption occasions. By tiering our pricing, target demographics, and sales channels, these offerings collectively expand the category and provide consumers with an unparalleled fresh fruit experience."
However, the Snowball Coconut’s uniformity as a product has allowed it to push past traditional retail boundaries. Today, this premium item has successfully extended its footprint into the food service supply chain, marked by a landmark contract with Luckin Coffee – China’s largest coffee chain and the pioneer of the country's coconut-latte craze – for 1.88m units.
"This crossover proves the Snowball Coconut can successfully transition from a premium retail snack into a core commercial ingredient," Yang notes. "Our -18°C standardised pipeline seamlessly delivers on what large-scale chains care about most: uniform scaling, food safety, and prep-table efficiency. This sets the stage for our broader expansion into the beverage industry."
"Furthermore, anchoring our presence within the high-frequency coffee scene allows the brand to seamlessly embed itself into the lifestyle matrix and brand affinity of the younger demographic."
With its long shelf-life capabilities, international expansion has emerged as one of JWM’s core strategic priorities for the Snowball Coconut.
"The Snowball Coconut has successfully broken into premier regional markets including Singapore, Hong Kong, and Korea, while concurrently capitalising on Joyvio’s sports marketing footprint at overseas events like the Singapore Marathon to seed brand awareness," Yang reveals. "Over the next three years, our strategic goal is to drive international sales to account for 20 per cent of the Snowball Coconut’s total revenue."
